Course DEscriptions

Coding for kids

 

Coding for Kids (Scratch)
An introduction to coding that helps beginner students learn a language that allows them to create their own interactive stories, games and animations. As students design Scratch projects, they learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively.

Advanced Coding (Scratch)
Students with some coding experience are guided through challenging concepts in Scratch Programming. Students will be able to create intricate animations, stories and games using coding logic and program design.


Math Courses

 

Math is Money 101 (Math & Financial Literacy for Ages 8 and Up)
The application of mathematical concepts (four operations, number sense, place value, rounding, patterns, factors, multiples and more) as they relate to financial literacy (What is investing? How can we invest? Why should we be investors? Making SMART goals, investment myths, assets and liabilities and more!)

Math is Money 102 (Pre-requisite: Math is Money 101)
The application of mathematical concepts (fractions, decimals, percentages, word problems etc.) as they relate to financial literacy. Upon completion of this course students will know more about financial literacy than most adults.

Math is Money 103 (Pre-requisite: Math is Money 102)
The application of mathematical concepts (percentages, ratios, order of operations, graphing, word problems etc.) as they relate to financial literacy. Upon completion of this course students will know more about financial literacy than most adults.

Math is Money Advanced (Pre-requisite: Math is Money 103)
The application of Consumer Mathematics concepts (profit/ loss, percentage increase/ decrease, rates and proportions, statistics, probability, etc.) as they relate to entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Students will participate in group projects where they apply math concepts to real life scenarios such as investing in the stock market, starting and running a business.

Math is Money for High Schoolers
The application of Algebra and ACT/SAT Math concepts as they relate to financial literacy.

Chess for Parents and Adults
Tired of your 6 year old that’s enrolled in one of our courses beating you? Fear no more…we now have a course for parents and adults! Learn the tips, tricks and chess tactics your child is using to beat you and other family members

Private Chess Lessons
Advanced level lessons with our highest rated coaches in private small groups. Students will take their game to the next level as we prepare for competitive tournament play.

For Group Chess Lessons we recommend working with our sister organization, A Step Ahead Chess.

Chess and Entrepreneurship 101
Application of entrepreneurial concepts as they relate to the great game of chess. Upon completion of this course students will have learned business start up fundamentals, the benefits of playing chess and be able to move all chess pieces.

Chess and Entrepreneurship 102
Application of entrepreneurial concepts as they relate to the great game of chess. Upon completion of this course students will be playing timed games of chess with clocks, and will also learn principals to successfully grow a business while connecting with fellow entrepreneurs.
